The Canadian-born millionaire, Lord Beaverbrook left political office at the end of the First World War and built up a newspaper empire. He entered Churchill’s War Cabinet in August 1940 as Minister of Aircraft Production (1940-41); Minister of Supply (1941-42) and Lord Privy Seal (1943-45). He also administered the Lend-lease scheme in America in 1942.
