Isoruku Yamamoto Admiraal (1884-1943)

As commander-in-chief of the Japanese navy, Yamamoto was responsible for the successful Attack on Pearl Harbour and the actions in the Java Sea. He was decisively defeated in the Battle of the Midway in June 1942. In April 1943 American intelligence agents decoded a message outlining a tour of inspection which Yamamoto was due to give. US fighters intercepted his aircraft over the Solomon Islands and it was shot down with no survivors.
